he BHS Alumni website commonly referred to as The HUB, was created to:
The idea of creating a website to connect the various chapters and provide a virtual community center for our alumni arose from my experience at the 2005 BHS' Reunion, where I realized that we could help our school even further by strengthening our alumni community, by reconnecting and reacquainting ourselves with each other, and by fostering new relationships.
By mid-2006, even though the HUB had reached an advanced stage in its development which allowed for alumni to create their profiles online and request membership in any of the ten chapters, my vision for the HUB was not realized due to work and other pressing commitments. Having said this, the HUB will continue to evolve as time permits. Even with its limitations, the completion of phase one and the ever-increasing membership is indicative of the culture of camaraderie and the desire among alumni to reconnect.
If you have not yet registered, please take a moment to do so. Registration is free except for the 'Members' Directory,' which requires members to sign in, after which they can view other members' profiles and edit their own. It was designed this way for security and, most importantly, to encourage revenue for the chapters through membership fees. So far, the HUB has had over 10,876 hits; 271 alumni from around the world have registered; and the chapters have collectively received 43 new members. I believe that as more alumni become aware of the HUB and its purpose, registration and membership will increase.
I hope that we can one day be part of an alumni community that not only uses our skills and resources to help our school and ourselves, but also adds to the rich legacy of our alma mater. Please be encouraged to continue your support through the associations and individual efforts. As an alumnus I am privy to discussions by alumni from other schools who believe that BHS continues to raise the bar and to carry the torch of excellence.
Please encourage your friends and other alumni to visit the site and to register, as there is strength in numbers. Let us show our solidarity in support of the venture so that we might become models for other schools in Guyana. Heaven knows our beloved country can benefit from her daughters and sons collaborating with a focus on helping their schools. I pray that BHS will continue to reap the rewards of our efforts, and that the generations who inherit our legacy will recognize the sacrifices and maintain our philanthropic traditions.
